Pig Dinner 2006
We recently received some contact information from the undergraduate chapter explaining some plans for the 2006 Pig Dinner. The section below represents the email that was received. If you have questions or comments about the events, we suggest you contact Brian rather than this site.
Brothers,
I would like to start off by saying thank you for all the donations we received since last fall; the response to Chris Cornett’s email was overwhelming. With all the donations we received we were able to do a lot of much needed work on the house. I think you will be surprised to see the difference when you come in March for Pig Dinner. All the walls have been repainted, new carpet will be going in the parlor and TV room upstairs, we are planning to have a rod-iron fence put in to replace the dilapidated wooden fence in the courtyard, and we are assembling a study room upstairs in the new part of the house with study tables, computers, copy machine, and a test file. Again on behalf of the entire chapter I’d like to thank everyone for the incredible response, and I’d also like to thank Chris Cornett and John Bowls for giving their time and effort on the project as well.
Last December we elected a new cabinet, which began their term in January. The new cabinet is as follows: Jake Williamson (President), Mike Parsons (Treasurer), Tyler Black (Recording Secretary), Danny Vander-Maten (Corresponding Secretary), and Forrest Burch (Historian). Additionally Todd Dorough was elected as Rush Chair and John Harris is the spring pledge trainer.
We initiated 26 new brothers in January, and also had a good spring rush with 9 new pledges. Summer and fall rush is just around the corner, and we would appreciate recommendations from graduates if you know someone coming through, particularly if you have a son or younger brother coming through rush. Please call Todd Dorough 334-559-1134 or email him at dorouje@auburn.edu with recs.
Pig Dinner is March 18, 2006, and is going to be done a little differently this year. We are moving the event to a restaurant called Auburn City Limits, some of you may have been here before, it’s a very nice restaurant with incredible food. The menu for Pig Dinner includes a salad, shrimp and grits for an appetizer, steak along with a side dish, and a dessert. I’m certain that everyone will enjoy Pig Dinner this year, so please make plans to come, and call all of your friends and get them to come. We will being asking that each graduate brother pay $30 to help cover his meal (this is probably what you would pay if you went to eat here on your own), there will also be a full bar, which includes a large wine selection if you enjoy that.
Invitations will be going out February 8 so be looking for that in the mail. Also added to this year’s events is a golf tournament on Saturday morning at 8:00 AM at Robert Trent Jones Grand National, it will be a 4-ball scramble. This is not a fund raiser or anything like that, so if you would like to play it only costs what a typical round of 18 holes costs at Grand National which is $62 during that time of year. The A-day game will be that afternoon, they haven’t announced the time yet, but it is usually around 1 or 2 o’clock.
We are really looking for a big turnout this year, and will be featuring the classes of 96, 86, 76, and 66. I am going to be getting with graduates from each of these classes and asking them to help recruit brothers from their class to come to Pig Dinner, if you are in any of these classes and would be interested in calling some of your pledge brothers please email me at shonebc@auburn.edu, I’d appreciate anyone that wouldn’t mind helping a little. During the program I would like to have representatives from each of these years to say a few words about what the fraternity/university was like when they were here. Also David Housel has committed to being the honorary guest speaker for the night.
We do need you to RSVP, as it is important so we know how much food to order all you have to do is send an email to aupigdinner@yahoo.com and type your name and indicate whether you plan to play in the golf tournament or not, also if you don’t mind indicating somehow if you are in those classes I mentioned earlier, thank you for doing that. If you know anyone who doesn’t get this email and/or does not get an invitation to Pig Dinner in the next few weeks, please let them know about what is going on and send their email address to shonebc@auburn.edu.
Pig Dinner is going to start at 6:00 PM and Dinner will be served around 7:00. If you would like to take a look at the restaurant where it will be you can at their website www.auburncitylimits.com, which has driving directions if you click on “Contact Us.” I’ve attached a copy of the invitation in case something happens and any of you don’t get one or know someone who doesn’t get one. Thank you for all your support and we all look forward to seeing all of you at Pig Dinner.
Sincerely,
Brian Shonesy
