We received information on a Brother from the '81 class, Mitch Schuster. The information is brief and not encouraging. According to our sources, he

is in intensive care at UAB in B’Ham with what I have been told is encephalitis.  Please keep him, Kim and the kids in your thoughts and prayers.

Here is the link to CarePages that will allow you to post a message if you like and/or get updates on his status.

Brothers, This is Kim Schuster’s latest update on Mitch. Bless you guys who wrote in to his Care Page to express your prayers and words of concern and encouragement, and to all who have been praying for Mitch and his family. I know that some have contacted some former little sisters as well. It’s nice to know that there is “family” out there who will come along side and pray for you in such trials. Keep the prayers up. Guess what? We have been moved to a room on the floor! The doctors said he is looking better! He will do some physical therapy and we will see how that goes. He doesn't seem to need much, but he has not walked much for a week. He is beginning to eat for the first time also. His doctor from Decatur, Allen Schmidt, came for a visit today and said he thought Mitch was doing very well also. The big prayer now is that Mitch will be willing to take this slowly and get the rest he needs for as long as he needs. I think Mitch might even be able to read some of these posts a little later tonight! I would like to close this update with two thoughts. First, I struggle with thinking I am self sufficient. Now, think about this: How does God graciously move us from depending on ourselves to depending completely on Him? -Certainly NOT from a life where everything is easy and we succeed at everything we do! Read: James 1:2-5 ; James 1:12 and Matthew 5: 1-11. Hold these truths close to your soul-this is real life. When you understand this you understand why you should never confine God just to the pleasurable. Secondly, I read a devotion by Charles Spurgeon which had the following quote: "Don't be like the swallow which touches the brook with her wing, but like the fish which penetrates the lowest wave." These "severe mercies" from our Heavenly Father force me to penetrate to this lowest wave and I am forever grateful! To God be the glory! Amen Love, Kim
